I understand the logic a bit. You can't publically shame someone into re-following you. It would be like holding them hostage. They would never be able to consider them a real follower and so the relationship is basically over. It was never Tane's intention to get that re-follow. It does say something about Bao as a person. She tried really hard to please this person. As you can see, Bao tried to undo the problem by basically giving full control of her followship to Tane. Bao has learned a bad lesson from this event.
